Sports Tours & Fundraising

Since its inception in 1993, the Sports Tours Committee has raised over £650,000, sending over 2000 pupils on sports tours around Great Britain and the world.

The Committee was formed by parent volunteers from across the School age ranges and meets half-termly to discuss applications for funds and to plan fundraising initiatives and events. Tours operate every two years to a long-haul destination by sport rotation for Seniors and U15’s to enable all students an opportunity to join a major tour once in their School career. Smaller-scale tours also operate for younger years in different sports.

These tours have been subsidised by the fundraising efforts of the Sports Tours Committee to provide any student who wishes to go on a tour with the opportunity to do so, regardless of the cost, or their affordability. All tourists benefit from this subsidy to some degree and parents benefit from the reduction in total costs for these trips. The main fundraising events are a Quiz in November and the Annual Sports Dinner in March. Speakers at the Dinner in recent years have included Sir Clive Woodward, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Alistair Cook, Michael Atherton, Will Greenwood, Billy Vunipola, Matthew Pinsent and Lord Coe.

The School’s Domestic and International sports tours extend the opportunities for students to develop their sporting interests and have visited exotic climes such as South America (rugby; 2017), Australia (rugby; 2013), Sri Lanka (cricket; 2012, 2015), Malaysia (hockey; 2011), Florida (football; 2010) and Washington DC (cross country; 2015, 2013 and 2017) as well as places slightly closer to home including Hungary (cross country; 2016), Spain (football; 2016), Italy (rugby: 2015 & 16; football: 2018), Northern Ireland (netball; 2012) and Devon (hockey 2012).
