The School’s Spring Concert took place on 2 May and saw great performances by eight ensembles this year.
The Sax Ensemble opened the evening with a wonderful rendition of Williams’ Cantina Band followed by the Senior Clarinet Group performing Early Hungarian Dances by Ferenc Farkas. The Trio performed the second movement from Serenade in D Major Beethoven and the Flute Group with the hymn Sibelius by Finlandia.
Larger ensembles followed with two performances by the String Orchestra which included Mendelssohn and Bach. The Concert Band dazzled with three performances including Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Birdland and Pomp and Circumstance No.1.
After the interval guests were then treated to the Wind Orchestra performing It don’t mean a thing and California Dreamin’. The Orchestra ended the evening with soloist Thomas Hillman playing the 1st movement of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto and Brendan Warren playing the 2nd movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto.
