The Joint Schools’ Concert between St Albans School and St Albans High School for Girls provided a memorable evening of music at the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Albans on 13 March, with a range of rousing English Choral Classics.
Combining both schools’ choirs with an orchestra comprising their elite musicians and playing alongside professionals, the Choral Society performed Parry’s I Was Glad, to commemorate the centenary of his death and also sang music by Parry’s students: Vaughan-Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, Walton’s Coronation Te Deum and Elgar’s arrangement of Jerusalem.
The strength and vitality of the Joint Schools’ Choral Society comes from the combination of these young singers, parents, staff and OAs. Miss Emma Price, Director of Music at St Albans School High School for Girls conducted the Joint Schools Choral Society for the first time.
