This week was an exciting week for our Music department! With Phase One of the Centre for the Performing Arts project successfully completed, the Music Department are now enjoying their new home, located on the Lower Ground Floor of New Hall.
Virtually all academic Music lessons are now taking place in the new facility, as are all individual instrumental lessons. According to Tom Young, Head of Academic Music, “The new facility provides pupils with a superb learning environment and we are thrilled to be in the new space, with classrooms which are very well equipped.”
The new Music department offers valuable rehearsal space and nine soundproofed practice rooms, a recording studio, plus additional dedicated classrooms. The Music Department was previously located across School House, New Hall and the Abbey and now has a single home worthy of its quality.
At the end of last term, the Music Department excitedly accepted the delivery of four magnificent new Steinway pianos.
“The new pianos are sounding fantastic, and we are looking forward to hosting a greater number of regular lunchtime Chamber Concerts, now we have a dedicated space with a brand new Steinway Grand. The pupils who have visited the space and tried it out already seemed very enthusiastic!” added Tom Young.
The Music Department prides itself on encouraging participation in a wide range of music for all levels. With the arrival of the new Steinway pianos, we are continuing to ensure that our pianists and musicians have the opportunity to rehearse and perform on the finest instruments available.
The Play your Part fundraising initiative, within the Building Futures campaign, has been instrumental in raising funds for this project. Our grateful thanks go to the generous parents, Old Albanians and supporters who have made Phase One of this project possible.
