Performances of Drama Department’s production of ‘Our Country’s Good’ took place over two dates at the end of May. Set in 1787, “Our Country’s Good” tells the extraordinary true story of a group of convicts transported to Australia as a punishment for their crimes. Survival is by no means certain in this strange, unfamiliar world, yet an officer inspires them to rehearse and perform a play. Facing opposition, supply shortages, abuse, and the threat of hangings, the odds are seemingly stacked against them.
The performance both went extremely well, with audiences calling it “A powerful and convincing performance of a play that is demanding and complex, both in its subject matter as well as its structure.” All money raised from tickets sales is going towards the Lower Sixth Drama trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
