The School’s athletes were well prepared for the annual Sports Day, having achieved great success at the District Championships. In that competition, the Third Form was placed 3rd, with Second Form came 2nd, while the Fourth Form won. There were District Golds for Luca Stubbs, Patrick Bissett, Alex Harris, Toby Whitehurst, Stratford Ryan, Ben Stein, Kemji Oguike and the Second and Fourth Form Relay teams. Several of these students showed their prowess on Sports Day too, with Toby Whitehurst setting two new School records for Second Form 80m hurdles (13.7s) and 300m (41.2s). Not to be outdone, Alex Harris set Third Form records in 800m (2.07min) and 1500m (4.25min). Soaring to new heights was Stratford Ryan, clearing 3.20m in the Fourth Form pole vault, breaking a record which had stood since 2006. Tom Fulton of the Sixth Form flew round the track to record 51.6s in the 400m, while Matt O’Connor in senior discus threw 36.24m. The girls too ran well, with the Hawking relay team equalling the record of 59.6s. The day’s activities also included friendly ultimate frisbee matches and a staff v students tug of war, won by the might of the staff.
